Barge "Stern" is a Dutch Barge cruising the French canals and rivers. The name "Stern" is Dutch for tern, a small seagull. Barge "Stern" is a Luxe motor built in 1929 in Woubrugge in the Netherlands. After a complete renovation she now has a luxury accommodation for just 2 guests ensuring an optimum in individuality, luxury, flexibility and privacy while leaving plenty of space for living, relaxation and enjoying the views. Please join us to discover the French canals, seated on our sundeck with a glass of wine and watch the ever changing landscape at a pace that only a barge vacation can give you.
2010 Cruises

"Stern" offers all-inclusive private charter barge vacations in the upper Loire region on the "Canal lateral a la Loire" in the centre of France. We will cruise between the cities of Nevers and Briare . Here you will discover the peace and quietness so hard to find nowadays. This less known region, but with its famous wine regions of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, castles from era's ranging from the roman times up to renaissance etc., will surprise you on every tour or excursion we make.

Stateroom

In the front we have one air-conditioned stateroom with en-suite bathroom. The bed is European King Size. The stateroom has ample hanging space and draws to unpack and make yourself feel at home. A LCD TV set with both laptop and camera connection, to preview all pictures you have taken during the trip. A hairdryer, heated towel rack and bathrobes are standard in the bathroom.

Salon

The salon is light and spacious. Here you can enjoy satellite television on a HD flat screen TV, listen to the audio system or explore our DVD, cd and book library. For the real enthusiast we also carry some real old fashioned board games. Adjacent is the modern equipped galley.

Wheelhouse

The spacious wheel house is featured with large windows, allowing you to even enjoy the views when the weather is less sunny. It can also be used as a comfortable dining room when the weather prevents outside dinners.

Around the deck

But who wants to stay inside when the weather is beautiful. Both on the fore-deck and the aft deck we have plenty of room to sit and relax. The aft deck features a large spectacular half-round teak sofa. It is shaded by a big tent to filter the hottest afternoon sun. However for sun-lovers we also have a lounging area at the fore-deck with reclining lounge-chairs and accompanying tables to keep everything at hand.

Two bicycles are on board if you feel like biking. For the planned excursions we will use our air-conditioned minibus.

Your Vacation

A barge holiday on "Stern" will give you an opportunity to discover all secrets of the Upper Loire region. Our itinerary has the right balance between cruising and excursions. Beside an every day excursion you will also have the opportunity to bike or to stroll along the canal. Furthermore we will give you every possibility to adjust the excursions to suit your taste best.

Gastronomy

Your barge holiday with Barge Stern is an all-inclusive holidays meaning all meals are included.

Every morning we will have a continental breakfast buffet. Not only you will have a choice of the traditional croissant but also many local bread specialties. Fresh orange juice, coffee and tea for you to choose.

Most of the lunches will also be served on board. Below you will find some examples of the light servings we have for lunch:

Filet of turkey on toast with point s of asparagus

Piece of goat cheese covered with breadcrumbs on lamb's lettuce with bacon and walnuts served on toast

Small packet of fish-filet with fresh herbs and tomatoes served with fresh salad and baguette

Pak choy covered with goat-cheese and olives

Other local specialties served as lunch.

Twice dinner is served on board. The other occasion you will have your dinner in carefully selected local restaurants. Here you can enjoy the French cuisine and it's local specialties.
