Nieuwpoort is a fishing harbour and pleasurecraft port. It has an overwhelming seafood market, with morning catches from the North Sea and a wealth of fresh fish and seafood restaurants. 

The tree-lined Kanaal van Gent takes you through beautiful countryside from Plassendale to enchanting Bruges. Follow Naar Oostende to medieval Ghent and cruise down the Lys, unlike most of Belgium’s waterways, a natural river. The riverbank’s irises give origin to the heraldic “Fleur-de-Lys”. 

Into Northwest France, explore up Canal de Calais to historic Dunkirk, along Canal de Veurne back into Belgium and to Spanish/Flemish style Veurne. The narrow Lo Canal leads towards the ancient town of Ieper (Ypres).
