The Camargue is one of those regions apart which seem to have no place in their surroundings. In the south of France, a much sought after area for holiday and retirement homes, the Camargue is outstanding in being hundreds of square kilometers of countryside. The traditional salt lakes with pink flamingos, the wild looking horses and the vast expanses of barely cultivated land, give this region a very special character.

Wr are also on the coast of the Mediterranean, and the influence comes inland alo,g with the small fishing boats that are moored outside the fisherman's cottages that are dotted along the banks of the small canals in from the sea. You can visit the many fishing ports along the coast and sample fresh fish and seafood all along the waterfronts.

The Etang de Thau is also a very special salt water lake that you can cross in your boat. Visit the ports of Marseillan and Sete.

An absolute must is the medieval walled city of Aigues Mortes, site of the departure of many of the Crusades. Climb the Tower of Constance for an amazing view.
