We are writing to tell you how much we enjoyed our barge trip on the Mirabelle. We had never done this type of trip before but were very pleasantly surprised. We were on the first trip for the Mirabelle after it was refurbished, and the crew was also new and had not worked together before. 

It was a very relaxed cruise. The service of the crew was really outstanding, and the food was unbelievably excellent. The excursions were interesting and well conducted. The other passangers were also interesting and really got along well together.

Port Cassafieres to Castelnaudary

A canal holiday in October ? If you are prepared to travel to the South of France it can be warm and fun. We hired a boat from Port Cassafieres for a one week, one way trip to Castelnaudary along the Canal du Midi, one of the most ancient canals in Europe. It rained solidly for one day, but for the rest the sun shone through the trees lining the canal and over the already-harvested vineyards . We sampled several examples of previous year’s efforts at cafes and restaurants in towns and villages along the way.
With hindsight, we should have done the trip in reverse. When you are short handed locks are far easier to go down than up, even with the help of friendly lock-keepers and other crews.
We flew to Toulouse and caught the train to Beziers with a taxi to Port Cassafieres. The Port at Castelanudary is a five minute walk to the railway station. We spent the final Sunday in the art galleries of Toulouse to round off a very enjoyable autumn break.

Saint Jean De Losne out and back

Dear Emma 

Thank you for your message. Yes I did manage to find a number to leave with my daughter and thankfully it was not needed anyway ! We had a wonderful visit to France. We took the boat from St Jean to Tournus and back. It was a great way to see the beautiful countryside. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful and the language barrier was not as much of a problem as we had feared. Life in the United States (at least in the northeast  where we live) is much more hurried and the people are much too rushed and impatient to take the time to greet each other as we saw in the villages we visited in the Burgundy region. 

I was sorry we were not able to meet with you when we arrived. I hope you had a good holiday yourself.

Tannay out and back

Dear Emma 

To refresh your memory, my wife and I rented a Crown Blue Line Kingfisher at Tannay, 11 June. We had a great time.
Of all the things we did in France, the boating was the most relaxing. The locks were easy and actually fun to go through. They also provided a chance to chat with fellow boaters. The leisure pace of boating let us enjoy the countryside and villages along the canal like no other mode of vacationing. The lock keepers, villagers, and fellow boaters were very pleasant. We truly felt like guests all the way. The facility at Tannay was first class. The lady that handled the paperwork and the man that showed us how to use the boat were extremely helpful, and a couple from England, picking up a boat at the same time, very kindly helped us with supplies. We ate most of our meals on board- picking up our baguettes and fresh groceries took a little planning, but was a chance to enjoy the villages and people along the way. We liked putting out the stakes and tying our boat along the canal for the night rather than staying at a dock.
Emma, thank you very much for your work in setting up our boat. Your E mail messages were most kind. Be assured that I will e-mail you again when we are ready to take another trip !

Hi Emma- I never took the time to thank you for all your help. We thouroughly enjoyed our adventure. Amazing to know that most people, at least in Hawaii, would never consider driving their own boat. We found it to provide for the vacation of a lifetime with the people we love the most, our family (or part of it), in a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure. The country French people were great. We are going to invite our other 5 children (not all at once and they are now adults) to do some more cruising.

I am now planning a trip with my parents in the south of France for next spring and I was looking at your trips in the Midi and around Bordeaux. Can you suggest a weekend itinerary that would not be too strenuous ?
So many questions ! I hope I am not imposing, but your input was so valuable on this past weekend excursion that I wouldn consider booking without it.

We had a wonderful holiday ; the boat trip was great. What a fantastic stretch of water ! I’m sure we will return some day (when we’ve saved up enough money). Also had great luck with the weather.
We found the scenery stunning, the people friendly and the food and wine great ! The German boat drivers were most entertaining.
