chance to
discover two distinct and wonderful regions of France where everything
lends itself to relaxation and leisure. From Toulouse to Beaucaire, you

du Midi. This is a region of vineyards and sunshine full of picturesque
villages where the slow pace of life is mimicked by the rhythm of canal
cruising. To the East lies the Camargue with its ponds and marshes
where
herds of white horses roam freely. These are two regions with
innumerable
flavours and a striking character which will leave you with
unforgettable
memories.

Your stop-overs
With the song of the cicadas. Your cruise on the great canal level of 50 km reach between Argens and Colombiers will be very restful. The numerous meanders which lead to Capestang will allow you to admire its superb XIIIth century abbey, which towers over the whole countryside. Like the artists who have set down permanent roots here, you will be delighted by the small village of Le Somail, very picturesque with its XVIlth century church huddling against the old stone bridge. From Trèbes, where you will tie up in the shade of old plane trees, you can visit the ancient walled city of Carcassonne which is a few kilometers away. In Castelnaudary, you will visit very old pottery workshops which are still being worked. You can also taste the famous "cassoulet". In Villefranche de Lauragais, a former fortified town of the XIIth century, which we advise you to visit on bicycles, you will admire a monumental Gothic church built of pink brick, with a wall bell tower from the XIIIth century. Toulouse or the delights of the "pink city" : you will relive its rich past discovering the St Sernin basilica, the largest Romanesque church in France, or the convent of the Jacobites erected for the Dominicans in the XIIIth century. |
